Massively excited to hear the new track, I can't imagine it'll be the first BKB track I wouldn't like. I saw Queen Ifrica at Roskilde Festival in 2008 too, she was fantastic! Infectious smile, she just seemed to exude a whole new level of positivity, it was actually very inspirational for me personally... BUT
I'm interested to hear what Nat has done lyrically. To be honest: I'm a man, and I'm not into "difference" feminism and the matriarchal "philosophy" Nat referred to in that last mailing list message. I resent the idea that promotion of women over men is a good thing because women are inherently "better" or more "conscious" or whatever. Just like I abhor the concept of the patriarchy, which is just as flawed!
I believe what unites men and women is infinitely more important that what divides us and I believe this is what the focus should be on. Equality, acknowledgement of biological differences sure, and respect for each other and the talents we can bring to the table.
Women's Revolution? Missed the point.
Humanity's Revolution? Much more like it.
Not sure how well I might have phrased this, but I'd love to hear what my sisters think of this approach?
Peace.

Hey Simmo, natalie here...
thanks for the post..
I wouldn't call the "philosophy" i referred to as matriarchal, and I definitely don't call myself a feminist. In our mail out what I’m referring to is the fact that in some countries women are destined to be child bearers and full time mothers some never learning to read or write, limiting their opportunities in today's world...this has an undeniable effect on their communities.
What I'd ideally love to see is the next generation of young girls and women feel empowered to be able to make the choice, choose the path they'd like to take for their future at the same time as educating and inspiring the generation after them and so on and so forth... this is how I feel about the next generation of young men too, this song just highlights the fact that being born a women means there are different hurdles to face…
Did u know that a girl born in South Africa today has a one in 3 chance of finishing school, but a 1 in 2 chance of being raped or sexually abused..
Of course "what unites men and women" is worthy of focus, but so to is the inequality still experienced by a large percentage of the worlds women. In Afghanistan some girls are married out as young as 11 or 12 years old...against their will.
No one is saying women are "inherently better just because we’re female", but we are inherently dealt a different hand in this life..
so yes i'd love to see more women in the male dominated game of politics in an attempt to try and shift these old ways into new days, yes i'd love equal wages for women worldwide, including developed nations, and yes young girls and women have an important and unique role to play in crafting a righteous future.
Of course we recognize the countless contributions of men, but this lil number here is for the ladies...
I hope after actually listening to the song, you’ll get the vibe a little more..
"Humanity Revolution"...? , don’t worry - that's the rest of the album...
One Love

p.s here’s a great article to read, it’s question: why educate girls? check it out. http://www.unicef.org/sowc99/features.htm

Hi Nat,
I wouldn't disagree with a thing you just said. Reading the mail, I was at first reminded of hearing Germaine Greer speak recently, and how I left feeling very much like a second class citizen because of my sex, but I appreciate it's the minority of people who take that view either way. And I'm not comparing you to her at all, that was just my misjudgement! ![]()
Like I said, obviously I haven't heard the track yet. It just sparked ideas I thought were worthy of discussion...
I'm totally convinced that the education of girls in developing countries needs to be a priority, there are far too many women in this world who cannot determine their own futures. Thanks for the information and the link you shared, those initiatives mentioned were very inspiring!
The track and the BKB crew have my full support! Hope to come and see you in London again in a couple of weeks ![]()
