As momentum for the Free West Papua campaign continues to grow and gain attention throughout the international community, Australians continue to show mounting support for their fellow human beings and closest neighbours, West Papua. Another historic showing of undeniable support for human rights and justice in West Papua came at Blue King Brown’s East Coast Blues and Roots Festival performance on Sunday 8th April where thousands threw up thier fists in a passionate display of solidarity and unanimity that the issues facing West Papua need to be promptly addressed by the Australian Government and the interanational community and that human rights is deserved to all people and we as nation have a responsiblitly to do whatever we can to ensure that that is what’s happening.

It is through signing the petition and your sharing and reposting of images like this that we as a communtiy can help expose the dark truths behind the oppression of West Papua and no longer allow these human rights abuses to be hidden in the darkness, our mutual knowledge on the issues is a light that has bravely begun to shine through, and it is only with your support that we will continue to see that light shine brighter and eventually, the unhindered Rize of The Morning Star for a FREE WEST PAPUA.

Blue King Brown invited members of the 43 asylum seekers, who were granted entry into Australia from West Papua in 2006, and co-founders of ‘RIZE of the Morning Star’, to join them on stage. ‘RIZE of the morning star’ is a campaign that is calling for a peaceful, nonviolent solution to end the inhumane treatment of West Papuans. West Papua is only 250km from Australian shores and the support of the Australian people and Government will play a vital role in creating independence for this country.

“I feel that the majority of Australians will be shocked as well as saddened to hear about what is happening in West Papua, almost 50 years of human rights abuse. We support human rights and justice, not just for West Papuans, but for all people everywhere around the world, and you can see that our global community is starting to demand that our voices be heard,” says Natalie Pa’apa’a of Blue King Brown.

The West Papuan message is simple, they want self determination and are calling upon the international community for support.

Natalie’s lyrical delivery poetically defines a sense of hope, with a firm sense of self determination, in a time that is ignoring ancient knowledge & cultural wisdom, instead of nurturing and embracing it. Blue King Brown seized on the opportunity to work with reggae star Jah Mason whilst spending time recording in Kingston, Jamaica.

Proud supporters of the Free West Papuan movement and their quest for Independence, the band recently used their headlining spot at Bleach Surfing Festival on the Gold Coast as a benefit & awareness gig for the cause,  actively speaking out on this important issue.
Ending 2011 on the stage at Pyramid Rock Festival, Blue King Brown continue to knock out festival audiences, recently headlining St Kilda Festival & Bleach. Leading into the main stages of WOMADelaide & Bluesfest Byron this month & next.

Blue King Brown’s self-titled Canadian debut has been released with Indica Records . The new album includes the hit song “Water” which is also one of their many self-produced music videos that has garnered over 500,000 views on YouTube.  To celebrate the release Blue King Brown are offering the track for free download on their Facebook Page.

Blue King Brown’s new album produced by James “Bonzai” Caruso (Stephen and Damian Jr Gong Marley), was recorded in Australia, Jamaica and the US and was mixed in Australia and Las Vegas. The album captures the eclectic international sound of the locations, full of life, musical intimacies and full-throttle adventure.  It also features very talented guests such as Sly and Robbie (Mo Truth), Queen Ifrica (Womens Revolution) and Jah Mason(The March).

This morning the Broome Community no gas campaign stopped Woodside’s bulldozer and clearing equipment on the Manari Road. Currently a protester is locked onto the bulldozer just south of Quondong on the Manari Road preventing the Woodside clearing equipment advancing along the road to the proposed 25 hectare clearing site. The Broome community is calling on the Federal Minister for Environment to intervene and to stop the clearing until this project has the required approvals to go ahead.

“This is appalling behaviour by Woodside, they do not have State or Federal Government approval for the gas refinery project. They are literally bulldozing the Kimberley, the Broome Community and the State and Federal Government process to select the site for gas refineries to process Browse Basin gas.”

The Federal Government has ultimate responsibility for this.

The Broome community is calling on the Federal Minister for the Environment Tony Burke and Federal Minister for Industry Martin Ferguson to reign in Woodside and the State Government.

Protesters are concerned that the gas refineries will be the foot in the door to industrialise the Kimberley.

WA Premier Colin Barnett is on the record saying that he’d like the Kimberley to be the next Pilbara, expanding the heavily industrialised North West of Western Australia.

“The International Community need to know that the Western Australian Government is intent on destroying the Kimberley and that Woodside, BP, BHP, Shell and Chevron are part of this plan. This is at the time when the world is just beginning to understand the global, natural and cultural wonders of the Kimberley.
